Dynamics of solute/matric stress interactions with climate change abiotic factors on growth, gene expression and ochratoxin A production by Penicillium verrucosum on a wheat-based matrix

چکیده

Penicillium verrucosum contaminates temperate cereals with ochratoxin A (OTA) during harvesting and storage. We examined the effect of temperature (25 vs 30 oC), CO2 (400 1000 ppm) matric/solute stress (-2.8 -7.0 MPa) on (i) growth, (ii) key OTA biosynthetic genes (iii) production a milled wheat substrate. Growth was generally faster under matric than solute at 25 oC, regardless concentrations. At growth P. significantly reduced in both treatments, no observed -2.8 MPa (=0.98 water activity, aw) ppm CO2. Overall, patterns slower elevated when compared existing conditions. The otapksPV gene expression increased levels treatments. There fewer effects otanrpsPV gene. This pattern paralleled these suggest that is able to actively grow survive soil crop debris three way interacting climate-related abiotic factors. resilience suggests they would still be pose an contamination risk post-harvest.

Penicillium viridicatum, Penicillium verrucosum, and production of ochratoxin A.

The taxonomy of the important mycotoxigenic species Penicillium viridicatum and P. verrucosum was reviewed to clarify disagreements relating to the three P. viridicatum groups erected by Ciegler and coworkers (A. Ciegler, D. I. Fennell, G. A. Sansing, R. W. Detroy, and G. A. Bennett, Appl. Microbiol. 26:271-278, 1973) and the mycotoxins produced by them. Cultures derived from the types of these...

Effects of selected essential oils on the growth and production of ochratoxin A by Penicillium verrucosum.

Essential oils from oregano (Origanum vulgare L.), mint (Mentha piperita L.), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.), and pine (Abies alba Mill.) needles and cones, and their active substances thymol, carvacrol, menthol, and anisaldehyde were tested for antifungal activity against Penicillium verrucosum. The lowest minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were achieved for essential oil of oregano, ...

Growth of Penicillium verrucosum and production of ochratoxin A on nonsterilized wheat grain incubated at different temperatures and water content.

The results of two experiments with wheat grain inoculated with Penicillium verrucosum are reported. In Experiment I, wheat grain, containing 10, 20 and 30% water, was incubated for 2 weeks at 10, 15, 21 and 28 degrees C. In Experiment II, wheat grain, containing 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22% water, was incubated for 2 weeks at 10, 15, and 20 degrees C. At initial moisture content (IMC) of the wheat g...

Climate Change Impact on Some Factors Affecting Rainfed Wheat Growth (Case Study: Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province)

The aim of this study was to investigate the climate change impacts on some factors affecting rainfed wheat growth such as effective rainfall, planting date and length of growing season in four stations located in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. Firstly, it is necessary to predict future (2046-2065) climatic conditions. For this purpose, the output of HADCM3 general circulation model was us...
